About Amy, ABCDT
Hi, I’m Amy, a certified dog trainer based in Manitoba, Canada. I have a deep respect for the emotional lives of animals, especially those who come to us through rescue.
When I started working with dogs, I found what truly matters to me: the quiet, powerful bond that forms when dogs feel safe, understood, supported and loved.
Meeting Bailey changed the way I saw behavior and learning. I began to recognize that many rescue dogs aren’t struggling because they’re stubborn or difficult, but because they’re struggling with so much that we may never fully understand. That curiosity led me to deepen my understanding of canine behavior through formal education at Animal Behaviour College, where I graduated as a Certified Dog Trainer and obtained my Training shelter dogs certificate.
Today, I focuse on supporting rescue dogs and their people through thoughtful, compassionate, positive reinforcement–based guidance. My goal is to help guardians feel confident and connected, while giving dogs the patience and understanding they need to truly settle into their homes
Strengthening relationships, one paw at a time.
Meet Bailey!
Bailey began her life in a shelter and was returned to a kennel at just one year old; already carrying more change than most dogs should have to navigate at a young age.
I first met Bailey while working at the kennel. Her quiet nervousness and soft brown eyes immediately stood out to me. When I was given the opportunity to work with her, our focus wasn’t on perfection, it was on helping her feel safer in the world. Together, we worked through everyday experiences like leash walking, car rides, and learning how to be more comfortable around other dogs, always at a pace she could handle.
Bailey showed me that progress doesn’t come from pressure, it comes from patience, consistency, and listening. As she settled into family life, she grew into a loving, curious, and playful companion. I was endlessly proud of the trust she learned to give.
When Bailey’s health declined far too early, I made the difficult decision to let her go with compassion. Naming this space after her is my way of honoring the lessons she taught me: that rescue dogs deserve understanding, time, and kindness. When we offer our rescues those things, the bond that forms is truly life-changing.
Bailey’s legacy lives on in The connections that form when owners understand their new rescues.

What Bailey’s Dog Academy Is About
Bailey’s Dog Academy exists to support rescue dogs and their people through the often overlooked transition into a new home.
Our work is rooted in positive reinforcement and a trauma-informed approach that prioritizes emotional safety, trust, and understanding. We believe behavior is communication and that meaningful change happens when dogs are met with patience, not pressure.
Through free starter resources, flexible virtual support, and self-paced courses, we help guardians build confidence while giving their dogs the time and structure they need. Whether you’re navigating the early days after adoption or looking to better understand your dog’s needs, our goal is to help you create a relationship that feels safe, supportive, and sustainable for both of you.
1. Is this support right for newly adopted rescue dogs?
Yes. All support is designed with rescue dogs in mind, especially during the early weeks and months after adoption, with a focus on safety, understanding, and gentle adjustment.
2. What if I’m not sure what my dog needs yet?
That’s very common. You don’t need to have everything figured out—support can help you better understand your dog and decide on the next steps together.
3. Do I need to move through everything quickly or all at once?
No. Everything is flexible and self-paced. There’s no rush—we move at the speed of trust.
